Designing Using PORT2000 (+Porttime) Software......

It's for real folks - O-Mi-God

The purpose of the PORT2000 series programs is to let you test port areas and shapes, before cutting them, and to see immediate results of your changes long before running the actual engine.

TATARGET.exe:..

1> Establishing a TARGET BMEP at the RPM you want peak H.P. to occur is your first job. Be realistic on this goal and you should have good results.

PORT2000.exe:..

2> Put in all your start up specs on engine you are designing. Always start with the Exhaust Port first as this sets the tone for this project. You will see a EXHAUST TARGET TA and a BlowTA on several screens. These will also be shown in steps on each line of rpm change on the main TEST screen. You will notice that these numbers are larger at LOW rpm and get smaller as Rpm increases, as does the BMEP number on right side of screen. This idea sounds odd but you will soon understand this idea if you take time to try simple BMEP formulas shown in the T.S.R. PORT2000 program.

3> Your goal will be to alter width, height and port corner radius's to match your Target timearea values estimated by the BMEP number you put in at start of the program. I suggest that you work towards this goal in small steps so you can watch EXHAUST TA and BlowTA values change on main test screen. Sometimes you can home right in on EXHAUST TA and the BlowTA works out easily. This is due to the fact that the Transfer ports were misplaced to start with from factory. Possibly they were ok at lower RPM and matched up to a new WILDER Exhaust port you made at new higher RPM. If BlowTA is only off a small amount sometimes you can alter the TOP PORT CORNER RADIUS to effect the change. Usually the BlowTA is off the mark more than a small amount and this requires a transfer port height change, (to cut back into main Exhaust port timearea). KEY # 4 on MAIN MENU easily corrects this now. Just press # 4 and then press # 1 to have program quickly find correct port height for you. Remember, if you alter exhaust again later, you should rerun KEY # 4 to bring transfer ports back in line.

4> NOTE:...You can of course at any time, "Not use the FindQuick" feature in a special instance where you need to make more Mid-Range. This usually requires slightly higher Transfer ports than FindQuick will give you. Watch the Type of Power predicted in transfer mode. Some Snowmobiles require this change. Remember "FindQuik" is not perfect but it is very close most of the time. Also remember changing transfer ports will effect exh. pipes too.

5> This NEW PORT2000 program will ask you for BMEP at HP Peak RPM at actual CRANKSHAFT HP. This is much different than older TIMEAREA program. You must think in terms of Actual Dyno CrankShaft HP now.

Note:.. You can have the 'SAME BMEP' as stock, but at a 'Higher RPM', and this to will make more HP. Try it with formulas provided in software. Ever notice how many tuners try to build an engine to match a given set of pipes (pipe) instead of the other way around. That's backwards building, build the engine then the pipes (pipe)!

Kind of like a 4-stroke tuner saying "I have this one (great!?) Camshaft now I want to build the engine around it!" This is the Wrong way folks.

INTAREA.exe:..

INTAREA.exe is for setting up good PISTON PORT intakes.

NOT for Reed Valve engines or Rotary Valve engines. See REEDVALV, ROTARY or ROTARY-2 for these types of Intakes
